South Point High School Baseball Retreat

For the last four years, South Point High School Varsity Baseball Coach Jason Lineberger has taken his coaches and players on a preseason retreat to Hickory, N.C.  The school partners with South Point Baptist Church to provide meals, activities, and volunteers to make the retreat a success.  This year I had the opportunity to travel to Hickory and spend some time with the team.  It was truly a blessing for me to see players and coaches spending time talking about their relationship with Christ.

Every year, a speaker comes out to share with the guys about being a leader on and off the field.  This year, everyone had the opportunity to hear from Andrew Barna, an FCA leader and baseball player from Davidson College. Andrew provided some valuable tips on becoming a spiritual leader on campus.

This retreat provides the coaches and players with an opportunity to grow in their walk with Christ.  After the first year of the retreat, the players started a team Bible study that meets every week.  The leadership has been passed down for the last three years and the Bible study is still active today.  It’s amazing to see the ripple effect that can take place when coaches decide to step up and boldly live for Christ in front of their players.  This decision by Jason Lineberger has made a positive impact on his team, church, and community.
