2013 FCA National College Conference:
Last week we finished up the 2013 FCA National College Conference in St. Simons Island, GA. We were able to send 5 athletes from Charlotte to join 100 athletes from 30 different universities all across the country – ranging from Florida State and Virginia Tech to West Virginia University and Shorter University (my alma mater). From Charlotte there were two softball players, one track & field, one cross country, and one football player. This year’s theme is “Relentless”. It was a powerful time as the athletes gathered to grow spiritually while being challenged competitively. One of Charlotte’s female athletes spoke to the entire camp on the last night that we were there and got a standing ovation. All glory to Jesus for what He is doing in their lives.
As I traveled to the college conference, I got to stop in Fayette County, GA and sit in on a Bible study that we started in 2009 with three guys. I wish I could describe how powerful it was to watch – I was pumped! The three guys we started it with (who are now heading into their junior year of college) passed the torch to a younger guy who has led it for the past two years. As I watched and listened to him lead I was blown away. He spoke boldly, confidently, and humbly. With him officially graduating from high school last week, I got to witness him relaying the baton to a rising junior as he allowed him to lead the Bible study. It was an amazing picture of the power of discipleship. The Lord is continuing His ministry through faithful men and women who have made it a priority to pass the torch to the younger generation.
A few months back Charlotte had their first ever spring game – they had almost 14,000 people in attendance, it was incredible. I had the chance to speak to the entire team and coaching staff at their chapel before the game. Several of the football guys are really taking it to another level in their relationship with Christ – please pray for them and for me as we continue on in the Bible study and one-on-one discipleship this summer.
Thanks for sowing into the lives of the coaches and athletes and for allowing the Lord to use you to provide opportunities such as these for their spiritual growth!
